Easily one of the most poorly run company's in existence. I have lived all over this country, from large cities to rural backwoods to Appalachia and I have NEVER lost power more often than I do now in Northeast Texas. The service is absolutely abysmal and we lose power any time it rains for longer than 10 minutes. It is completely outrageous and totally unacceptable, and we have no other options. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Well, another stormy year has passed and I have to say, I have been fortunate to have maintained power, or at least have had it restored relatively quickly when compared to other providers in the area. So I will take the liberty to yet again, update my review and my star rating, (as I am CEO, president, director of the board and sole proprietor of my Google review account). In fairness, I will leave intact the rest original review and dramatic story and I will leave the first edit of that review unadulterated. Hopefully it will all make sense. You may want to start reading at the bottom and work your way up chronologically. So, 4 stars it is. June 2024

(EDIT 1)I have increased the star rating from 1 to 3 because additional information came to light after I had a chance to talk with one of the cooperative employees.
A few hours after submitting the original review I decided I should call 911 and have a wellness check on Bowie County Electric Cooperative. It totally worked. The police checked on them and said they were safe. That was great but still didn’t fix my issue. I learned that the key to this unorthodox approach is not the police involvement at all, barring live wires on a roadway or something like that, the real key is your local Fire Department, it was explained to me that I needed to have the FD out to verify I didn’t have any ongoing fire or shock danger, so the dispatcher transferred me to Fire/Rescue and I indicated my concerns - in short order, Redwater VFD folks began arriving, I learned that the FD process of investigating an issue like mine would include calling and getting someone with the power company on scene. Well, the FD had a number for BCEC that I certainly did not. With their call (no automation) they had a lineman in my yard in 5 minutes and he fixed the problem in an additional 5 minutes. Turns out, being a newly constructed home, I somehow wasn’t even listed as a customer (yet the billing was impeccable) Anyway, that’s why I could not get the automated system to recognize my electric failure. I would input my meter number and it might as well have been Roman Numerals. I believe 3 stars is still a generous score because BCEC does not allow their ‘members’ the right to talk to a human, no opportunity to explain what is happening to a real person, a person that has problem solving skills and discernment and hopefully compassion. Why we don’t deserve such a thing, has not been explained.

I would like to point out, I am not necessarily recommending this as a tactic to get a service man on scene, I am just pointing out that the only work around in my unique circumstance was as detailed above.
Below is the original 1 star review. I may still have a picture to add…

(Unable to get help. After 12 hours of loss of power, still unable to reach a human. Automated outage report failed to register my reports. Number for emergencies not staffed. Wow.)

So my dad died in December and in August I took over payments. The whole account got switched into my name and I set up auto pay. A couple months went by and I logged in because of the power outage and I saw a bill so I paid it. Couple months later, I logged in and saw that I had another bill and paid it. My power was shut off this morning, there was no storm so I go out to the meter and it says off. I have no idea what was going on at the moment so I call. They told me $780 in fines and penalties since August. They charge me three reconnect fees when my power had never been shut off. They said that they had shut my power off twice. I asked about auto pay and they said that I have to fill a physical form out And mail it in. On the app, it says I’m enrolled in auto pay. None of this should’ve ever happened, but they didn’t even cut me a break. I have to pay almost $1000 to get my electricity turned back on for one month. I hope this isn’t happening to anybody else so this is a warning if it hasn’t yet to look for it. I can’t believe they can get away with this.

You want a review well I will give you one…
I have never in my life dealt with a electric company that takes there sweet ass time fixing a outage
Our electric is off more then it’s on and when is off it’s a good 12 to 24 hours sometimes longer before anything is done about it not to mention the $400 to $500 of meats and other items that have to be trashed and I feel like I should be paid back for the money that was wasted do to all this…😡

Thank you to the young man from Bowie Cass who came out today to repair a loose wire on the transformer. He was very polite and considerate. He had the problem repaired under 10 minutes, very professional. Also thank you to the office staff for setting it up for the same day. God bless you all.

If I can put 1negative star to y’all, I would. We’ve been trying to get a service to our land since 2022 and nothing has been done at all. Every time we call, y’all just keep saying our case has been place on “Matt’s” table and that he should be giving us a call. To this day, that engineer Matt has never called us not even once!!! And your customer service is TERRIBLE. You didn’t even apologize for the time you told us to drive 45 mins to your office in Douglasville to supposedly pick up the meter base that we ordered only to tell us that yet again, Matt needs to check the property yet again to make sure we’re getting the right thing. This company is terrible.
