This morning, I lent my friend my teen daughter's car, so she can go and get herself some help at this place. My daughter uses her car in the afternoon after school, so my friend really only has 2-3 hours to use the car to run all her errands which includes going to the co-op today. They fell on hard times during covid with both husband and wife developing debilitating illnessess that will never go away as an effect resulting from the first variant of covid which was the worst. This place was a blessing for them. After a year, they both got jobs, but because of their illnesses it was hard for them to obtain full time jobs. They never abused the system, so they don't go to this place unless they really have to. The last time they got food here was 6 months prior to now. It used to be once a year you would go inside and they check your eligibility. Then after that, within a year, you would drive up to the entrance, there were very nice ladies getting your ID and proofs, then they look at the list if your name was there, and then you pull up to the vehicle line. Today she told me she didn't see anyone checking IDs or anything. Since it was raining she just assumed the name would be checked at the loading area. When she pulled up, these men asked if she already went inside. She said she hasn't because she did NOT know! She did NOT know because she remembers the old system where you get checked before pulling up to the loading area. They told her to go inside first. She thought "oh it's different now" and planned to proceed as instructed. However as she was about to drive away to do what she was instructed, she told me that 3 out of the 4 old men of exclaimed "Nice try!".... what's that supposed to mean? She called me at the parking lot and was very confused about it since English is her second language and although she speaks English well she has to sometimes check what certain expressions mean. I had to explain to her and I was very non-reactive, however I think she knew what it meant. What kind of men are these Yes they volunteer their time and work, however that doesn't give them the right to assume the worst of people and judge other people they know nothing about! These old men should be schooled in ethics, good manners, and right conduct. I hope their posterity will never have to experience being treated this way. Needless to say, when she realized how insulting those expressions were "Nice try"---these old, mean, judgemental, and most likely miserable men who thinks themselves as better than others (like the pharisees in the New Testament) thinking my friend was trying to cheat the system and she was not---my friend decided to just not get any help. She had $20 left to buy groceries for her family. The insult was too much for her.
All the time I've known her for 12 years, I have never seen her to be dishonest nor unethical. She is one of the most honest, kind, and giving person I know. Those men need to get ethics training. I'm serious! Shame on you judgemental old men! What a shame that you represent a Christian ministry which does not show in your words and actions.
