I moved from south florida where FPL was my electricity provider, and use TECO for my gas, and my experience with PRECO has been horrendous.

They shut off my power because my automatic payment did not go through, which i don’t understand why they wouldn’t just try again or tag it onto my next bill.. then they charged me $200 for bringing my power back - which i fought to be waived - and was, and then the representative tells me that they will reinstate my power when they can, but if there are any outages elsewhere, those will take priority. Well, this is considered an outage in my home so I don’t understand how it’s not priority. I informed them that my livelihood depends on electricity such as working from home and a working nebulizer for my asthma, and they still did not prioritize bringing electricity back to my home. That in itself tells me it’s a horrible company and if you can avoid them and get a different electricity provider, I would very much go that route. I’m going to start looking if I’m allowed to switch because I rather get TECO or FPL than PRECO.

Very pleased with my rates and service. I came to this area from a place that charged 2-3 times the rates I pay now.
Am so pleased with the courtesy and cooperation of the linemen too. Very polite and knowledgeable. Fast reconnect service.

We’ve had PRECO for over a total of 14 years in 2 different locations, as well as another provider in the area at a different address. We’ve had different experiences with customer service however our power service and affordability has been great and easy to handle. Occasional outages have happened and we’ve had terrible customer service reps as well as great ones but that goes for any business when dealing with people. I’m grateful to live where I can have PRECO.

Rates are very high, service is fair at best. We were told three months ago that they needed to replace our underground service cable, we are still waiting for this repair. The average workers are great, I suspect the management, which lives high on our dime could care less.

Very expensive utility rates. As of 2022 the cost of electricity here is 11 cents a kWh compared to 6-7 center a kWh in Lakeland Electric's area where we moved from. On top of that, if you want to go solar, they do not follow State Net Metering Laws. Effectively killing any chance of getting away from paying for their expensive electricity. Because they don't have net metering, they'll gladly buy your excess power for 5 cents a kWh and charge you 11 cents. Very disappointed with this company.

We have used PRECO for over 30 years. Normally several accounts running all the time in different service areas. They are not the cheapest nor the most expensive. We have experienced good service in most cases and gotten good results when we needed to push any issues along the way. They do respond to issues when you make a good case. As with any company they will not spend money unless there is a good reason. That is the foundation of a good business. There are problems is areas with outdated and aging equipment. These issues are being addressed as possible I am sure. People expect perfection for free and that is not realistic.

I am in agreement with many of the negative reviews. The most glaring observation to be made is power outages are the norm rather than unexpected occurrences. Second, I would give a zero rating if possible.

The posting above was created several years ago when all of the above was true. Approximately one year ago we received a call from peace River Electrical Cooperative informing us the transformer on our property was defective and needed replacement. They were accurate about both the time and duration of the replacement. Since the installation of the new transformer our frequency and duration of outages has greatly diminished. I do wish this issue was addressed earlier as I now believe the transformer in question was faulty long before it was replaced.
