It doesn't even deserve a one.
I was very loyal to the Van Cortlandt Credit Union for over 32 years. I had most of my money there (and it was quite a bit). Suddenly their interest rates plummeted, but that I didn't stress over because it was still over what Chase would pay. So, I maintained a Chase account because of their free services (ATMs and checks) but kept most of my money with the credit union.
I was going to buy a house so I needed some of the money for it. I ordered checks in advance to prepare but I found out that they need certified checks (specifically made out to each agency) so I went into the office and requested the checks that were needed (honestly only a small portion of the money).
Their answer was "We don't do that", pretty nastily I might add (and trust me I'm not easily offended). I tried to ask them what could be done to rectify the situation and they were really really nasty and said "nothing". So I said "I'll pull my money out" and the worker actually said "Ok, whatever". They did cut a check for me for the entire amount so that I could Chase to help me. Chase cut all my checks for free and got the rest of my money as well.
To be honest, it broke my heart.
I grew up believing in the credit union. I lived close by and always had faith in them.
Even when I moved I kept my money there because I believed in them, despite many inconveniences.
What broke my heart was their nastiness and complete lack of caring.
They lost a money that day...and I lost my belief in them and a lot of fond memories when I was young.
I cannot recommend them at all.
Again, it breaks my heart.

We have been members since 1984. Even when we moved to NJ from the Amalgamated, we have remained very satisfied members. Customer service is amazing and the financial aspects of "banking" (credit unioning?) are great. Unbeatable! If you are eligible, join, and have all your eligible family members join. Jon

One word: Predatory! They charge fees for absolutely everything. On top of that, they hide behind, "it was in the material we provided when the account was opened." Not to sound like an ageist, but if the account owner is pushing 80, and has health issues, they're not really going to remember the fine print. Wouldn't it be kind to remind a customer of the rules when you see they've incurred $100s in fees, especially when their account is very low due to being on a fixed income?

It's disgusting how money hungry this place is, and how seemingly little regard they have towards the elderly.

Terrible schedule, high fees for anything and don't offer anything better than big banks. Actually, big banks offer free checks, they don't, they charge $25 for a transaction while CHASE or CAPITALONE will offer you FREE services. STAY AWAY as they DO NOT OFFER ANYTHING. Just a problem to park and to find them open.

Superior Customer Service, offered services to clients are efficient at a low cost and helpful. Even after using other financial institutions, I found myself coming back & using VCCFCU due to the overall satisfaction they gave me.
